I hope you are all doing WUNDERBAR! Especially my sweet Mutti...Happy Birthday! Today I thought of what I wanted to write or what I could share with you all that happened recently. Well, here in Munich, the majority of miracles I have seen have included faith-filled mothers who are trying their best to lead their family to happiness and hope. Like I have seen in my own life, mothers are simply different. They are good, oh so good. Mothers have gifts and natural capacities that change lives, homes, communities, and ultimately the world. Do not get me wrong, I love my dad and am grateful for such good men and examples in my life, but today I want to focus on mothers and the role they have played especially here in Munich.
One such mother is Elena. :) Yesterday, I walked into the foyer of the church to see sweet Elena with her three tired children, dressed in their Sunday best, enter the church. My heart melted. I helped Elena take the children up to primary and as we walked downstairs, Elena began to explain that she had spoken with her husband about her baptism. This sweet mother, has known for years that she wanted to be baptized, but out of the interest of her family and other issues, she relied on the Lord completely, knowing that when the time was right, He would make it possible for Elena to follow our Savior into the waters of baptism. Elena said how she had brought baptism up and her husband was still not supportive. He did realize how important it was to Elena and how the church had helped his children in many ways since they have been coming. In the end, he said she could follow her desire. My dear friend Elena said that she would like to be baptized this Saturday, February 8, 2014. My heart dropped. This was a women who was one of the first people I met here in Munich. Elena is the one who I have repeatedly seen the Lord work through me to give this precious mother comfort, strength, and love. Elena is so ready to enter into this covenant with our Lord and to receive the precious Gift of the Holy Ghost which will enable her to be a better wife and mother. Elena said she wanted to be an example to her children so that one day, they too can be baptized. I am so grateful for the goodness of the Lord. When I arrived here in Munich, all this poor mother wanted was the best for her family. Through many prayers, fasts, and much faith I have seen the miracle of Jura's(her husband) heart being softened. I have seen the children go from not understanding prayer to praying in primary. I have seen the eyes of Elena being filled with tears, gratitude, and hope for her family through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
One of the scriptures Elena has chosen for her baptism is a scripture I remember memorizing in seminary years ago (see below). Little did I know, years later, this scripture would inspire a young mother, who fled from Ukraine with her family to Germany in hopes of a better life, to choose to act on the promptings and answers she has received from a loving Heavenly Father to be baptized. I am so grateful for the women in my life. For my own mother and the many women and mothers I have met while being on my mission. I am blessed to be in their presence and feel of their testimonies and goodness. I have been able to learn and imagine what our Mother in Heaven must be like through the special spirits in my life. So thank you Mom for being you and for teaching me about our Heavenly Parents. I am eternally grateful for you!
1 Nephi 3:7 "I will go and do the thin gs which the Lord hath command ed, for I knowthat the Lord gi veth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that th ey may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."
