This week was great! My new companion and I have learned a lot this week and have had a few adventures! (Welcome to Missionary work)
One experience happened this week in a city called Brück. Brück is about 30 minutes away from Graz by train. Each Tuesday we have district meeting in one of the areas where we have missionaries. This last week we were in Brück! After we have our district meeting, we usually have a "finding day".This means we are sent around the city to "find" new investigators, visit less actives, or whatever else that is needed.
Usually we have just gone dooring or walked around the main city area in Brück. Well this last week the Elders decided it would be a good idea for us sisters to go to a small town outside of Brück...about 15 min by train. So we were all going to our different assignments. One set of Elders was apparently going in our same direction. So we set out together to the train station. We actually missed our first train so we went around the trainstation and talked with some great people. The elders were on a exchange for the finding day..and one of the elders who has been in Brück for about 2 months was with us. I asked him which train we needed since we missed our last one. He assured us that we could ride with them and then our stop would be the next stop after theirs. So we get on the train and head out. Well as we are approaching the Elder's stop I say well I hope our stop is next...jokingly. The Elders said they would make sure on the schedule when they got off. As the train started pulling away, one of the Elders looked at us and did the "You are on the wrong train" face. Awesome. At first i thought they were joking. Not a funny joke.
Luckily there were a group of girls next to us so I asked if we were headed in the right direction...they informed me we were totally on the wrong train. Well Sister Jaynes was a little confused and a little worried. haha As my companion laughed, I thought we were going to die. :) The group of girls then helped us and we had a good conversation about who we were and why we were here. We were able to give them each a Book of Mormon. So great. Being from small towns in Austria...they had never seen missionaries so it was cool to see a little miracle the Lord was able to work despite us being lost. As if that wasn't enough, the story gets better.
So we get off the train at the next stop. It is called St. Michael and is just a little town tucked in the beautiful Austrian mountains. We call our district leader and tell him what happened, he offered to come get us, but we said nope...there is a reason we ended up in St. Michael today! So we left the train station and headed to the homes to go dooring. We were able to talk with some people and at the end of the day we found two potentials who were interested in learning more about the Gospel. Although the story itself is cool, there is more. Last night I spoke to one of the Elders in Brück and he said they had met with one of the potentials we had met. I was excited at the fact that they were able to meet with him. The Elder continued to say that he has the desire to be baptized and has a baptismal date!!!! What?!?! Ya pretty amazing. Isn't Heavenly Father so amazing? Through missed trains and taking the wrong trains, the Lord had a better plan for us. He wanted us to meet certain people and to remind His children how much he loved them in St.Michael. He also knew that one of the many people we spoke with was ready to come closer to Him through baptism.
Another cool experience that happened this last week was our first missionary experience with Charles! Like I have said before, Charles is always trying to share the Gospel and help others come closer to the Savior simply because he knows the miracle it brought to his own life. Well we met one of Charles' friend Sylvia this week. Sister Holmstead and I actually met Sylvia about two months ago. During one of our lessons with Charles, all of a sudden, Sylvia knock at his door! She joined us and started asking a lot of good questions. She was at our next appointment as well and we were able to give her a Book of Mormon! The next morning Charles called us at 8:00 and said that Sylvia had just called him and said she had read in the Book of Mormon and that she really enjoyed it. Awesome! So we made an appointment with her and asked Charles to come along to bear testimony! He excitedly accepted.
So we headed out! We had our pass along cards and German Books of Mormon! It was so cool to see Charles talk to people and be so Christlike. He would just talk to families and then give them one of our cards. It was so so cool. Charles really just desires everyone to experience the same joy he does. Having seen the conversion in Charles and now seeing him helping others with their own conversion is such a wonderful blessing. I am simply grateful.
Easter here in Austria was different for several reasons. But the message and celebration of Easter was the same. I love our Savior Jesus Christ. I am grateful for this beautiful time of year we are able to celebrate Him.
I am so excited for General Conference this weekend! What a blessing it is to have a Prophet and Apostles on the Earth today to lead us and guide us.
I love you ALL!!!!!
